Details

Bike PEI from from the west to the east on quiet country roads and stay in quaint little villages along the way. Your route will keep you close to north shore for views of sea on most days. On some days your route will include the Confederation Trail. It has a wide hard packed surface very suitable to cycling.

The tour includes a first and last night in Charlottetown. This package coordinates well with most flights or driving to and from the Island. There are 6 days of riding inn-to-inn. 5 days average 60 km. The final day is 26 km.

Take a shuttle on Day 2 to from Charlottetown to Tignish in the west and a return shuttle on Day 8 from East Point Lighthouse back to Charlottetown. Low cost long term parking is available in Charlottetown near your lodging.

Day 1 (Travel Day - Arrive in Charlottetown, PEI)

This is a day to travel to PEI, flying or driving. An overnight stay in Charlottetown is included in the tour.

Day 2 - Shuttle: Charlottetown to Tignish (western PEI) Optional cycling (15 km)

9 AM: Meet your shuttle a few blocks from your lodging for transportation to Tignish in western PEI (2 hour drive). If you are renting bikes they will be here for you. If you would like some cycling today ask the shuttle to drop you at North Point to see the lighthouse and the experimental wind farm. Have lunch and ride back to Tignish (15 km)

Cycling Difficulty: 1 - 2 (scale = 1 is easy and 5 is difficult)

Day 3 - Tignish to Tyne Valley Area (65 km)

Today you begin your PEI cycling journey to the east end of the Island. The route takes you on quiet country roads with regular views of the sea off the north shore. Lodging is at a B&B

Difficulty: 1 -2 there are few hills today.

Day 4 - Tyne Valley to Kensington (60 km)

Ride the quiet roads from Tyne Valley and join the Confederation Trail to stay off busier roads. The Island is narrow here and quiet road choices are limited. Have lunch in PEI's second city, Summerside and then finish the day with an overnight in Kensington at a B&B.

Difficulty: 3 - 4, there are a few hills today making an occasional 3.

Day 5 - Kensington to Cavendish (47 km)

Visit a historic church at Indian River and follow the coastline for most of the day. There are more sea views here. Finish at Cavendish, home to Anne of Green Gables stories and stay at a small inn overnight.

Difficulty: 2 - 3 with more hills after first 20 km

Day 6 - Cavendish to Mt. Stewart (62 km)

Follow the coastline through PEI National Park on two 10 km sections. Join the trail near Tracadie for the final 10 km of the day. Enjoy an evening at a quaint B&B. The restaurant may have live music available.

Difficulty: 1 - 3 with some hills after 20 km and ending at 45 km

Day 7 - Mt. Stewart to Souris (62 km)

A beautiful ride is ahead as the route follows the Confederation Trail along the shore of St. Peter's Bay where you will return to roads following the north shore through fir tree lined roads. Then cut down across the peninsula to the port village of Souris for your evening lodging. From your B&B you can see the ferry terminal for the boat to the Magdalene Islands.

Difficulty: 1 - 3

Day 8 - Souris to East Point Lighthouse/ Meet the shuttle to Charlottetown (26 km)

Ride the coastal road from Souris to the East Point Lighthouse with regular views of the sea and the southern coastline of the peninsula.

2:00 PM meet the shuttle at the lighthouse parking lot for return to Charlottetown and one last overnight.

Difficulty: 2 - 3 with some hills

Accommodations

Most lodging will be in bed and breakfast or small inns. Exceptions may be made based on availability or as requested. Rooms are ensuite or private bath and at least queen sized beds. Any necessary exceptions will be shared at the time of booking.

Breakfast is provided by each inn. Restaurants are generally available near your evening lodging. Our route directions provide you with suggestions and some of our favorites.

Our route directions will suggest the best routes for the cycling day. PEI has many other roads to choose from and you are free to explore as you wish.
