Why Self-Guided

Our independent tours start most days of the week and include luggage transfers. You get everything you need for your cycling tour in one package included turn-by-turn directions, maps and other information to easily find your way. There is no group to hold you back or tour leader to push you along. Travel at your own pace and enjoy a memorable vacation.

A self-guided cycling vacation from the Independent Tourist comes with the freedom to travel as you please and at your own pace. There is no rigid timetable; no anxious tour leader maintaining a schedule and no tour group to hold you back. It is after all your vacation – follow your dreams.

Flexibility

Cycling inn-to-inn makes the travel itself an integral part of your vacation, not just a means of getting to a destination. Enjoy the sights along the way. Take a leisurely lunch or skip it entirely. Make the perfect photograph or sit and sketch sailboats in a harbor. Or explore the back roads and take the long way to your next bed and breakfast.

Many tours have an additional night at one or more accommodation centers to allow more time to explore the area at your leisure. We will recommend loops to follow on that second day or you can decide to do something entirely different that day.

Start any day of the week (there are some exceptions) and form your own group if you like with friends and family. We will work out the details for you.

Difficulty and Pace

We have designed our tours with you in mind. We ourselves have cycled in many lands for long days and many miles but we prefer reasonable distances on our active cycling vacations. To accommodate others like us our tours have an objective of 25 to 35 miles on an average day when moving to the next inn. Each day may vary by more or less miles. However the tours are flexible and usually allow longer alternative journeys to the next town as desired. You decide.
