Itinerary

Day 1Travel Day : Arrive by car in St. Charles, Missouri

Meet the shuttle for the one hour drive to the winery village of Hermann. Your luggage and bikes go along. Bike rentals are available. Hermann has much to offer including antique shope and several wine tasting rooms and restaurants.

Lodging: B&B at Hermann

Day 2Cycling Day: 36 miles - Hermann to Augusta

Leave luggage with your host. We will transfer it for you to this evening’s destination, and each day on your tour. IF able, please take some light clothes along. Rare as it is, situations may arise of late afternoon luggage arrival. Note: B&B check-ins are usually 3:30/4:00pm. If arriving sooner, please call ahead. Our lodgings are very accommodating but many of our host do their fresh food shopping in the afternoons. Or take advantage of our no bags transfer discount.
Start your day by cycling across the bike friendly bridge over the Missouri River to the north side and the McKittrick trailhead on the Katy Trail. From there your day’s destination is Augusta another winery town with several wineries tasting rooms and a choice of restaurants. No bridge crossing here – you can cycle right up to your B&B for the night.

Lodging: B&B at Augusta

Day 3Cycling Day: 27 miles - Augusta to St. Charles

Today’s ride takes you back to St. Charles where you can enjoy a final night in the historic heart of the city on this Missouri bike trails tour. Along the way, up on the bluffs is Klondike Park. Although a very steep climb to the top, (1/8 mile) a park well worth the visit. Great views and an added 1.5 miles of flat cycling around the lake awaits. Please stop by our shuttle crew’s headquarters at the Katy Bike Shop in Defiance for some souvenirs and possibly a shuttle to Daniel Boone’s Nation Historic Home. Please inquire while reserving for a minimal added fee regarding a Daniel Boone tour (approx. time for shuttle, tour and back, 2 to 2.5 hours)
Beyond St Charles, the Katy Trail extends from the St Charles TH at MM 39.5 to MM 26.9 in Machens. This extended ride is a nice out and back for added miles, but with no accommodating services.

Lodging: Small hotel at St. Charles
Option: Don’t have time for a 3 night trip?
Make it a 2 night bike tour and skip the last overnight at St. Charles for a reduced price.

Excellent B&B lodging, and great hotels, will leave you relaxed and ready to cycle each day. With an experienced support crew, there are no worries of break downs or weather related setbacks, we will assist with comfort and efficiency. Whether cycling with standard rail-trail bike, trikes, recumbent or fat tire E- bike, we shuttle all shapes and sizes. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a great cycling vacation while Independent Tourist does all the work.
